Review: Come Back (Rock Savage, #1), by Candy J. Starr 1

4 out of 5 Stars

Available For Purchase On:

Interesting, with characters I could connect with. I really got into the story and rooted for the two main characters to figure things out. And just as I thought it was all figured out, there was a curve ball called…next book. IF it had been a complete story I would have given it 5 stars. But, because it had a cliff hanger I can only give it 4 stars. However, if you like a good rock star with lots of lust and love, this one is recommended.

Asher Savage, you’ve probably heard of him. He was in that boy band until they broke up then he went totally off the rails. He wouldn’t even be on my radar except my editor offered me the ultimate bribe, working with the rock star of my dreams, if I spend a month photographing Savage’s come back. I’ll take the job but it’ll be pure hell until I get my reward. Savage’s charms will never work on me.
Women dream of me. Hell, they name their vibrators after me! I’d never met a woman who hadn’t fallen at my feet, until I got stuck with this hardass photographer. Alice Cain, she thinks she’s way too good for me, and God knows, she’s probably right. But I need her on side for my come back to be a success and I need her in my bed if I want to keep my ego intact. She will be mine.

Calisto Donati

She was just a woman. That’s what Calisto wanted to tell himself; that’s what he wanted to believe. Emma was nothing more than a woman. There were other women for him to want. To obsess over.
It couldn’t be Emma Sorrento.
Not for Calisto.
She was taken.
She was claimed.
She was not his.
In a few days, Calisto would hand her off, and that would be that. He wondered why it wouldn’t be that easy to let her go.
What good had saving her done?
He had simply taken her from one monster to give her to another.

Emma Sorrento

Emma slid on her mask. All someone would need to do was look close enough to see what was really beneath the sheer falseness of her smile.
At the other end of the table, Emma found her lies staring her right in the face.
He smirked.
And winked.
Calisto Donati was her worst mistake, her greatest shame, and the one thing she still wanted more than anything. Emma could still feel him all over her, long after his touch and kiss was gone. In thirty days, her entire world had changed—he had changed her.
Emma had a feeling that if she played another game with Calisto, she would surely lose.
She had already lost once.
Wasn’t it enough?

Working Stiff: Casimir (Inheritance Trilogy, #1), by Blair Babylon Reply

BID Casimir Test 5 500px

Here’s the problem: when Rox was hired, she told her smoking-hot boss Cash that she was married, but she’s not. Now, three years later, she’s kind of accidentally living with him, and he’s being a perfect gentleman, dang it.

Everybody in the office said that Cash was a heartbreaker, that he’d bump her and dump her, so Rox decided not to become a statistic. She went out and bought herself some rings of the finest cubic zirconia so that she could work with Cash, who was several inches over six feet tall, emerald-eyed, ripped, gorgeous, his tailored suit clinging to his athletic body, sporting a British accent, and loaded.

It had seemed like such a good plan at the time.

But now, three years later, she and Cash have become friends. They travel together for work often, and they’re the best of buddies. When Rox gets thrown out of her apartment, Cash insists that she come live with him until they can find her a place because that’s what friends do.

Now, even though everyone insists that Cash never goes after married women, something about him has changed. There are little touches, little slips, and Rox is more and more tempted to tell hunky, gorgeous Cash that she never was married.

And then he’ll take her and break her, and then he’ll walk away, and then she’ll lose her job, and she still hasn’t found a place to live.

And yet, every time her looks at her with mischief in his dark green eyes, every time they’re teasing and it somehow turns into tickling, every time she swats at him and somehow ends up in his arms, she wants so much to risk everything.

What’s a working stiff to do when she falls in love with her friend, the boss?

Spotlight: Perfect Sense (Perfect Series, #1), by Amanda Cowen Reply

He’s gorgeous.

He’s reckless.

And he’s every woman’s dirty fantasy in the state of California.., except one… Quinn Ashby.

Recent graduate of Penn and top of her class, Quinn is whip smart, ambitious and interning as the new marketing coordinator for the Bexley Bruisers American Hockey League team. The last thing she needs is to waste her time on guys…especially one as lethal to her focus as Cash Brooks.

But once the bad boy hockey star tempts her into his world, threatening her professional future, she’s forced to decide whether to let him into her heart…or to leave him behind forever.

I round the corner into the secluded hall leading to the washrooms, and my heart stops. Cash on the ice, sweaty and dressed in hockey equipment, was sexy, but the Cash sitting feet away, wearing an expensive modern-fit, pastel brown suit, is insanely hot. I eye the two women perched on either side of him on the red velvet chaise. To his right, a long-haired blonde with extensions rests a possessive hand on his chest. To his left, a woman with jet black hair toys with her side ponytail while running the fingers of her other hand through his wavy honey-colored hair.

His piercing blue gaze snaps to mine, and he tilts his head to the side, studying me. A cocky grin curves his full lips. I move forward, unable to breathe as his stare slides down my peplum dress, stopping once at my breasts and once at my hips. His eyes lock with mine and I fiddle with the gold-toned slider bracelet around my wrist. He pushes up from the chaise, abandoning the two women feeling him up in the corner. I turn away, and as my palm slams against the door of the ladies room, a big, warm hand closes around my wrist.

Cash spins me around and I press back against the wall beside the door. He cages me, his palms flat on either side of my head. He leans toward me, his mouth inches from my face, so close I can the warmth of his breath tickling my cheek. He smells ridiculously good, like honey and cinnamon.

“Mittens,” he whispers, his mouth dangerously close to my lips. “I didn’t peg you as the stalking type, especially since you took off after I scored that hard-earned goal for you.”

What an arrogant bastard!

I arch an eyebrow at him. “Excuse me? Do I know you?”

His eyes flicker, and his lips curl in amusement. “Come on, Quinn. I don’t ever forget a pretty face. I’m willing to bet you don’t forget one either.”

My heart pounds as I glare into his sharp baby blues. His sexy athletic build towers over me. He makes me feel even more petite than usual. I try to ignore the rise and fall on his muscular chest, but despite myself my nipples harden.

Even though my body is betraying me, I refuse to act like every other puck bunny, falling at his feet. “You’re really full of yourself, aren’t you?” I say. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to use the ladies room.”

He chuckles, “How about you stop playing games with me and admit you came here looking for me.”

I shoot him a disgusted look. “I’m not here for you.”

Cash smiles at me with what I am guessing to be one of his most charmingly rehearsed expressions. He cocks his head to the side then bites his bottom lip like he is thinking about something. “Alright, since you want to play it that way…” He leans in close enough that I feel his stubble brush against my cheek. “Can I buy you a drink?”

An unwelcome shiver of awareness shoots up my spine. “Listen, asshole. I am Hilton Ashby’s daughter and the newest employee in the Marketing and Promotions Department for the Bruisers. So if you wouldn’t mind stepping aside so I can freshen up, I would really appreciate it.”

Cash’s dimples deepen, and a dangerous grin pulls at the corners of his lips. “Perfect, now I know where I can find you.”

I feel myself weaken for a brief second at his smile, until I remind myself this guy is nothing but trouble. Wrapping my fingers tightly around his tie, I yank him against my chest, and whisper in his ear, “Stay away from me, Brooks. I don’t do arrogant dickheads.”

Cash looks straight into my eyes, his grin still in place. He runs a callused fingertip along my collarbone. “I’m not going anywhere.” He leans down, his lips close to mine. “I promise you, this is just the beginning.”

When he steps back, I have to press my back hard against the wall to keep myself from sliding down to the floor. He runs his thumb possessively over my lips, before he turns around and walks over to his two voluptuous dates waiting for him on the chaise.

I inhale a sharp breath, before I push open the door into the ladies room. I collapse into one of the stalls unable to breathe. I can still feel where Cash’s stubble touched the side of my face and wonder how I am ever going to survive this internship.

Too Many Rock Stars (Access All Areas, #1), by Candy J. Starr Reply

Barnes and Noble:

I enjoyed this book up to a point. It was pretty slow to start but I did develop a love for the two main characters. Violet is her own worst enemy and nearly costs herself her own HEA. Both contenders for her heart are persistent but in the end perhaps true love can work out??? Both Razor and Alex are sexy  Rockers, just be careful of the Trojan Horse.

A certain aspect of the world of Rock is portrayed  The plot is slow to build and then is over in a flash. There was good character development but could use more on the action of the story. It seems the author has more to tell about this group so I would guess the end of the story is not the end. I wish I had known this is a series. If you enjoy a Rocker story you  I can recommend this book to you.

Our Blog was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I don’t date rockers. Don’t sleep with them. Don’t even swap spit. I’ve been working as a band booker at Trouble — the coolest indie rock club in town — long enough to know what a bunch of screwed up, egotistical jerks they are. Some of them might seem okay at first but that’s just because they’ve learnt to hide it better than others.

That would be fine if Razer didn’t keep popping into my office, making himself so annoyingly attractive. And he only gets more insistent when the leather-clad Alex hits town.

While they compete for both rock glory and my affection, I get stuck in the middle but all I really want to do is save my job and the club.

That’s the trouble with my life: too many rock stars.

This is book 1 in the Access All Areas rock star series. For the best, non-spoiler it is best to read the series in order but each book is a complete story with no cliffhangers.

I checked that creep was well away from the club before I left. Violet didn’t need guys like him hanging around her and I sure as hell didn’t want him at the club either.

He’d definitely taken off and I needed to kill some time before heading back to the club. I’d be back as soon as the place opened to get the bitter taste of that loser out of her mind. Who was he and where had he popped up from?

I didn’t like surprises. I didn’t like my plans being thwarted either.

I headed to the guitar shop. That was my place. The place where everything was happy and my heart felt at ease. Who wouldn’t feel good surrounded by guitars?

Heat rose from the pavement in waves that went through the soles of my boots. A day like this would almost melt the rubber. Some kids on the street threw water balloons. I kept to the side of the footpath so I didn’t get accidentally hit. One of those little buggers had a devilish look in his eyes and I had no intention of ending up saturated.

I hated that my plan had failed. It’d been a good plan. I’d get into Violet’s office and she’d have no chance but to give me some of her attention. The woman had to feel the heat between us. Hell, those sparks were flying out in all directions, worse than the time Bill plugged his bass into a faulty amp and ended up in the hospital. The air crackled around us. She tried to avoid it by doing that thing where she lowered her head so I couldn’t see into her eyes.

She just had some crazy prejudice about dating rockers. And I won’t lie, most rockers I know aren’t good enough to be the dirt under her feet. Not that I’m top notch or anything, but I worshipped that woman. She’s the sun to my star, the words to my melody, the jam to my peanut butter. All I wanted was a chance to prove myself and I’d be everything good – kind, loyal, loving. I’d make her breakfast in bed and massage her feet. I’d never wake her from her nap ever again.

Since the day I first met Violet, she’d been the only one for me.

Sure, she went on with all that “get out of my office” talk but she didn’t mean that. Well maybe that bit about her hating to be woken up was true. I rubbed my head. That boot had hit hard. But she’d been coming around to the idea when that knob jockey turned up.

If I couldn’t be with Violet for the rest of the day, I’d check out my baby. Because the one thing I loved in this world almost as much as Violet was that guitar. Maybe I loved the Les Paul more. If Violet showed some sign of returning my love, she’d make it to the number one slot for sure, but there’s only so far you can get in a man’s heart when you don’t requite. My baby, now she requited. She requited like a bitch on heat, responding to my touch and giving back as much as I gave her. On a good day, the best of days, she was my world.

Still, a guitar is cold comfort in the middle of the night. And I knew if I got half a chance with Violet, she’d requite too.

They were a lot alike, my two loves. The reddish-brown of Violet’s hair almost the same colour as the cherry wood. Both with curves I wanted to run my hands over. Violet had brown eyes that flashed when she got angry. It was almost worth getting her angry to see the way her eyes gleamed. She had the kind of face you wouldn’t call pretty but more strong and fierce. I’d rather a girl who looked like Violet than some boring pretty girl any day.

Phil’s Music World. Not only full of fucking sweet axes but also air conditioned. Just the smell of the place comforted me. Those fresh, virgin guitars and the older well-loved ones. The wood, the metal. I wandered around the shop, taking my time, not overly anxious, working my way up to my baby. The one guitar I coveted. That bitch hanging on the wall, I’d kill a man if I could make her mine.

You couldn’t walk straight in and go to her though. There was a system, a way of working up to it.

It’s called foreplay.

It took me a full hour to look around the shop before approaching her. Phil, the owner, had no beef with me getting her down and playing her. He’d offered to let me have a payment plan but I didn’t hold with that kind of thing. I’d save and I’d work my guts out but I couldn’t let her be packed off to some back room for who knows how long until I got my shit together. I just don’t do it like that.

A girl like her needed to be on display and appreciated.

It was tough at the moment though. Things were slow at the site so the boss had given me some time off. That left me free to pester Violet but didn’t help the savings anyway.

My baby would have to wait.

A shudder of anticipation went through me as I reached up to her, easing my way in with a gentle touch, when the shop bell rang. Instinctively, I turned.

Holy fuck. It was that poser. Alex Shithead. In my guitar shop.

For some reason, I retreated. I didn’t want to see that guy and I definitely did not want to talk to him. I’m not the kind of man to run and hide but he’d got my back up and I didn’t want trouble. I left my baby and hid behind a shop display. I’d watch him, wait for him to leave then get back to business.

He strode through the store. That’s the kind of poser he was, the kind that strode, not walked.

I hoped he just wanted to get some strings or something and then leave. He’d be off my turf.

The creep barely looked around the store, just went straight to the back. He obviously wasn’t a man who knew about foreplay.

He stopped just before the counter. Near my baby. Awfully close to her.

My heart jumped up to my throat and my fists balled. Get away from her, I wanted to scream. I kept pretending to look at oboes though. Fixed my gaze on them and tried to control my breathing. I could see him out of the corner of my eye. You should never take your eyes off a snake in the grass like him completely.

That poser reached up. His hand was near my baby. He grabbed her, just went straight in for the grope. What an animal.

He picked her off the wall. His filthy hands were all over her. He held her like she was nothing.

I wanted to rush him then. Inaction made my blood throb in my veins like fuel through a V8. I’d smash that fucker to bits.

Except I couldn’t hurt him without harming my baby. My baby was in his arms. If I threw him to the ground, she might break or get dented.

Before I could do anything, he was at the counter, wallet out. He hadn’t even played her. He’d not caressed her. He’d not known the gentle joy of her. How could you even buy a guitar without playing her first?

That traitor, Phil, smiled and nodded. He didn’t care that she was going to bad home. A home where she’d never be loved like she needed to be loved. A home where she’d not be precious.

The fucker just handed over cash and took her, like she was some cheap whore on a street corner. My baby should be treated better than that.

I’m not a man who cries easily. I’m not a man who cries often but, when I saw that wanker walk out with my baby, I had to wipe a tear from my eye.

I was not sure about this book as it kind of talks about a tabu topic,  but this was a great book! The cliffhanger at the end has me going nuts so I can tell you next book is coming out in January which I will be reading. This book has such a wide array of characters that keeping them and there personalities would have been tuff for me but the author has done a great job!

This book was a fresh and lively romance. I was drawn into the world of these characters and caught in the mystery and love story. Leo and Harper are a delicious couple with lots of baggage to make things run not so smoothly. The rest of the characters were interesting and helped the story along nicely. I was so caught up in the ups and downs of the story that I was sorry to see it end. I would have liked to be a part of  the rest of Leo’s and Harper’s life story. Maybe the author will want to tell another snippet  of their lives sometime. I will be happy to buy that book. Very Highly Recommended.

I typically I do not like Mafia style books. I always feel like they are reaching. Trying to be a written Sopranos or like the iconic Godfather movies. I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed this book. I felt that the characters hadn’t lost their humanity. They still cared for their family and tried to protect them. I hate reviews that give spoilers…so I won’t. Just know that I read this book in a day because I was so engrossed in it. If you are a fan of mafia style books, you will love it. If you are not a fan of this type of book, you will become one. I know I did!

Lies and love. This is how a war starts.

A life for a life. That’s the mafia way. Damian Rossi owes his life to a man who is ready to collect. That payment comes in the form of an arranged marriage to the daughter of another leading family in the Chicago Outfit. He’s ready to follow through, even if that means making sure Lily knows she’s his.

Lily DeLuca isn’t being given a choice. Forced home to marry a man she doesn’t know and back into a life she’d rather forget, her world is full of half-truths, buried pain, and uncertainty. But Damian is nothing like she expects. His motives aren’t clear. Her beliefs are being tested.

When it comes to this world, no man can be trusted. Someone is ready to flip the Chicago Outfit on its side all for the promise of something better. But no one runs a clean game and these men play for keeps. When blood begins to paint Chicago red, four families will be divided by loyalty, hatred, and revenge. There is no hiding. There is no safety.

No one is deathless.

No one.

Damian didn’t turn around as he said, “Eavesdropping is a bad habit you should break before it gets you into trouble, Lily.”

Lily bit her bottom lip. “Sorry?”

He shot her with a heated glance over his shoulder. The sight alone seemed to strike her in the chest with the intensity. “There are things you are better off not knowing.”

“I didn’t actually mean to eavesdrop.”

Damian smirked. “No, you were spying on me.”

Lily’s arms tightened around her frame again. She suddenly became hyperaware of Damian’s gaze raking over her figure with a slow intent. He didn’t hide his staring at all and his smug grin only seemed to grow into a sight of satisfaction the longer he took her in.

She felt unnerved under his surveying.

“I look like hell,” Lily said, unsure of why she even let the words out in the first damn place.

“You look incredible,” Damian said quietly. “Like you spent the night rolling in someone’s sheets, which I suppose you did.”

Lily laughed. “Just not with someone, huh?”

“Not by my choice, sweetheart.”

She shivered.

Damian was clearly playing for keeps in whatever game he had decided on.

Lily wasn’t sure she was ready for this.

Needing to get her mind away from the sexy, panty-soaking worthy place it had quickly gone to, Lily asked, “Is this usually what you do in the morning?”

“Talk on the phone?”

“No, work out.”

Damian nodded once. “If I have time, I try. It’s a good stress reliever.”

“What else do you do besides track girls down at clubs, work out, and watch news broadcasts on silent?”

“Are you asking about my job?”

Lily pursed her lips, her stare flitting between him and the spot where he’d answered the phone. “Yeah, I suppose I am.”

“I do what the boss wants me to do, Lily.”

“Anything?” she asked.

The second shiver that crawled up her spine came for an entirely different reason than the first. It was a hell of a lot colder, too.

Anything was vague enough for Lily’s imagination to run wild but pointed enough for her to understand without him directly saying it.

“So, you’re not like my brothers, right?” she asked.

“And I’m not like Tommas, either,” Damian said.

“That bothers you, doesn’t it?”

“A little,” she admitted.

“There’s a reason why they call me Ghost, Lily.”

“Yeah, because they never see me coming and they don’t hear me leave.”

Lily thought about Dino and the vague reasons she had been given as to why Damian was his first pick for her. Maybe aligning her with one of the most dangerous men was Dino’s way of keeping her safe. She wasn’t sure how she felt about that.

“Because you’re invisible,” Lily said.

“In the most important ways.”

“The ways that keep me from getting caught,” Damian answered.

“I’ve never seen a girl eat like you.” He laughed.

“I’m starving,” I said, in between mouthfuls of prawns and peas, trying to ignore the dinning room. A crash overhead started the storm’s symphony. Fat raindrops splattered against the window as the room lit with a sudden flash. Seconds later, another rumble filled the air. I shuddered.

“Are you okay?”

“I don’t like thunder storms,” I admitted, finishing the last of my noodles. The truth was I was afraid of any loud noise.

“Don’t worry, I won’t force you out in this.”

“I forgot to bring a coat,” I grumbled, rubbing my arms as though it had suddenly got cold.

Matt stood and peered out the window. “It’ll be a while before this is over.” He picked up the plates and took them into the kitchen. I followed him, not wanting to be alone.

As I walked in, I suddenly remembered the large windows, and saw the dreary sky blanketing the village. My eyes widened in fear as another flash filled the sky.

Matt smiled at me.

“What’s so funny?”

“You are.” He laughed, nearing me. “I didn’t think you were afraid of anything.”

“Appearances can be deceptive.”

“They most certainly can!” He took my hand and led me back into the living room. “Well, it looks like we’ll be here a bit longer than intended.” We sat back down on the sofa.

“And no TV to kill the time,” I said, staring at the empty fireplace. “Look, if you want to get rid of me, I can make a mad dash to the car door. It’s only rain.”

“I don’t want to get rid of you, Paige.” As he said my name, the hairs on my neck and arms stood on end. “But I’m not willing to share you either.”
