Review:

First of all this is more of a short story or essay rather than a novel. The author has a message to tell and it is simply “there can be life and love after a painful break-up or divorce. Leo takes us on his journey of realization which takes him to Peru and another lifestyle. The scenery descriptions were very good. I could see the world of small town Peru and the laid back lifestyle.

Leo goes from feelings of being suffocated  with grief to feeling like he will not just survive but thrive in his post- divorce world. The writing was a little jerky but I have a feeling that it was due to English not being the authors first language. I felt the truth of Leo’s journey anyway.

I would have like to see a little more of Leo’s life post Marisol. Like how he dealt with his son and ex-wife. It felt like part 1 of a multi book series.

As a short story it manages to grab my attention and keep my interest.

Description:

When Leo’s marriage ends, he falls into the depths of depression. He decides to escape the loss and the heartbreak with a trip to the other side of the world – Lima, Peru. In some ways, his journey becomes an unexpected salvation as his passions are reignited by the local food and people, the climate and the beautiful and alluring Marisol. The Love of Marisol is a poignant and passionate journey of heartbreak, loss but most of all self-discovery … it reminds us that at the end of one love story, there is always the possibility of a new one …

Description:

For “Perfect Paige” Westfeld, today is “D” Day. As in, she just got one on her calculus test. With  her dreams of Stanford, her reputation, and her parents’ expectations at stake, Paige needs to  find a way to save face before everything she’s worked for goes up in flames.

Ben Franklin (yes, he’s related) is from the wrong side of town, with the wrong clothes and the  wrong kind of life. He also knows an opportunity when he sees one, and he’ll be happy to tutor  Paige—if she makes him into the kind of guy her best friend, the hottest girl in school, will date.

It’s the perfect arrangement. And Paige is determined not even the inconvenient—and utterly imperfect—attraction simmering between her and Ben will ruin it…

Excerpt:

Ben rocked from foot to foot, then said, “Want to come in? I mean, it’s not much, but—”

“I’d love to!” she answered in a rush, before he could change his mind. He raised an eyebrow and Paige almost laughed—he and Zoey could play Eyebrow Battle Royale when they went out. A wave of cold washed over her. She had to stop thinking about how this would all end, otherwise she’d make herself sick. “Well, are we going in or not?”

Looking nervous, he let her in a side door near the carport. The first thing she noticed was the house smelled like… “Brownies? You have brownies? For real? Where are they? Can I have some?”

He hung his keys on a hook by the door and turned to her, smiling. “My mom usually cooks stuff before she goes to work. We can go look.”

They went through a tiny utility room—more like a hallway—into a small, clean kitchen. The rest of the room, because it was all one room, had a little dining table and a living area with a sofa and a TV. Paige took all that in with one quick glance, then zeroed in on the baking pan on the range. Speechless, she merely pointed and gave Ben a single, pleading look.

By now he was laughing. “If I’d known you had a brownie fetish, I wouldn’t have worried so much about bringing you home.”

He pulled the foil off the pan and cut her a big square. The first bite was heaven. “Ohhhh my God. Mmmm.”

“Okay, so fetish was the right word. You sound a little like a porn soundtrack.” He cut a brownie for himself. “What, you don’t eat brownies at your house?”

“No.” She had to eat another bite before explaining further. Heavenly bliss on a napkin. “My mother, in addition to being randomly rude—I’m so sorry for the way she acted, by the way, because she was a total bitch. No idea what her problem was. Anyway, she’s a health fiend, and an all-organic champion. No junk food is allowed in the house. When Mom bakes, it’s low-fat, gluten-free, and non-GMO. She wouldn’t even let me buy something good at my own bake sale today. I have to buy candy bars on the way to school and hoard them in my locker if I want a fix.”

“Wow…that sucks,” he said emphatically before popping the rest of his brownie in his mouth.

She nodded, too drunk on chocolate to bother answering.

His expression softened, and he reached out to brush her cheek. Goose bumps covered her arms and she gulped down her brownie. “What is it?”

He leaned forward, looking down into her eyes, before smiling. “Crumb on your cheek.”

She flushed head to toe, not sure if she was embarrassed or something else. Good God, she needed some air. Their faces were inches apart. All she’d have to do was lean forward and tilt her mouth up and they’d kiss. Would that bother him? Scare him off? He swayed closer to her and his hand drifted from her face to her shoulder.

No, to hell with worrying about it. She wanted him to kiss her. She turned her face up to his, and their lips were a breath away from touching. He stared down at her, mouth slightly open, and any second now, any second and he would kiss her. Any second…

SexyBlitzBanner1
Excerpt:

“Mr. Novak,” Amy, the resort manager, says in her businesslike tone, “there was a meeting this afternoon. I had it on your calendar and you missed it. I’m sure, as always, you have a good reason for that? I expect to hear it tomorrow at nine AM sharp.” She pauses for a moment to sigh. “And Fletcher, just so you know, it had better be monumental.”

There’s a click and the computer voice starts giving me options before I can disconnect the call.

Fucking management. I hate that corporate shit they do. And I hate these monthly meetings even more. But I have a show to do, so I push it away and head back downstairs. The ordinarily quick lift takes a few minutes and is filled with rich, drunk gamblers by the time it gets to my floor, so when I finally walk back through the stage door, Chandler is already calling my name.

“Fletcherrrrrrr…” he roars above the crowd of cheers.

“You’re late again, bro,” Bill says, walking by with his costume in his hand, sweat falling down his face after his dance routine. His hard body is rippled with muscles and his wet-look thong is stuffed with dollars.

But I’m a professional, remember?

I take the small set of stairs two at a time and push the curtain aside, just as Chandler says my name again. His expression is one of annoyance as he looks at the curtain, but then he realizes I’m here and it turns to relief. “Novakkkkkk…” he says, placing the mic in the stand and walking off stage on the opposite side.

I throw up my arms, allowing the tight white t-shirt to stretch across my chest and rise up from the waistband of my tattered jeans a little. The spotlight flashes directly overhead—just one brief tease of what’s to come—and the audience goes wild at that little bit of skin. But before they can do anything else, the stage goes dark again and the music starts bumping.

I don’t talk on stage. No one wants to hear what I’ve got to say. They only want to see what I can do with this body. Hardened from years of sports and diligent gym visits. Lean muscles accentuated with a grace that you only get with a decade or more of martial arts training. That’s all they want. That’s all they see. I’m just something to look at when I’m up here.

So I give them exactly what they expect. A show.

I start dancing, my hips moving to the beat of the song. Another flash of light from above. Another round of screams. And then silence as I freeze.

Whistles and catcalls start. But I hold my pose—fingertips on the back of my shirt, ready to oblige their insatiable need for the sight of bare flesh tonight. Then another flash. I drag the shirt up in that brief glimpse, and then darkness mimics my pause. The next flash they see my abs, the dream six-pack that’s mostly genetics, but I do my share of crunches. Then another flash and I give them the pecs, flexing the muscles and making them dance a little. And in that final flash, I rip the shirt over my head.

The front row stands, waving their dollar bills in the air, begging to shower me with money.

I twirl the shirt several times, taking in the throngs of women with their hands up, ready to catch the prize, and then throw it to a little redhead just as all the lights come on to the beat of the bass. I train my eyes on the crowd, ready to start the real show, and then the lights switch from me to them, lighting up their faces—red with the heat of five hundred woman jostling for position in the room. All of them there for me in this moment. It pans to the left side, and I use those three seconds to search for my star. Then down the middle. My eyes train on a woman in a light-colored suit sitting dead center before I lose her in the darkness and switch to the right side.

But she’s the one. She’s my star tonight. And she has no idea how hard I’m about to rock her world.

Review:

I typically I do not like Mafia style books. I always feel like they are reaching. Trying to be a written Sopranos or like the iconic Godfather movies. I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed this book. I felt that the characters hadn’t lost their humanity. They still cared for their family and tried to protect them. I hate reviews that give spoilers…so I won’t. Just know that I read this book in a day because I was so engrossed in it. If you are a fan of mafia style books, you will love it. If you are not a fan of this type of book, you will become one. I know I did!

Description:

Lies and love. This is how a war starts.

A life for a life. That’s the mafia way. Damian Rossi owes his life to a man who is ready to collect. That payment comes in the form of an arranged marriage to the daughter of another leading family in the Chicago Outfit. He’s ready to follow through, even if that means making sure Lily knows she’s his.

Lily DeLuca isn’t being given a choice. Forced home to marry a man she doesn’t know and back into a life she’d rather forget, her world is full of half-truths, buried pain, and uncertainty. But Damian is nothing like she expects. His motives aren’t clear. Her beliefs are being tested.

When it comes to this world, no man can be trusted. Someone is ready to flip the Chicago Outfit on its side all for the promise of something better. But no one runs a clean game and these men play for keeps. When blood begins to paint Chicago red, four families will be divided by loyalty, hatred, and revenge. There is no hiding. There is no safety.

No one is deathless.

No one.

Excerpt:

Damian didn’t turn around as he said, “Eavesdropping is a bad habit you should break before it gets you into trouble, Lily.”

Lily bit her bottom lip. “Sorry?”

He shot her with a heated glance over his shoulder. The sight alone seemed to strike her in the chest with the intensity. “There are things you are better off not knowing.”

“I didn’t actually mean to eavesdrop.”

Damian smirked. “No, you were spying on me.”

Lily’s arms tightened around her frame again. She suddenly became hyperaware of Damian’s gaze raking over her figure with a slow intent. He didn’t hide his staring at all and his smug grin only seemed to grow into a sight of satisfaction the longer he took her in.

She felt unnerved under his surveying.

“I look like hell,” Lily said, unsure of why she even let the words out in the first damn place.

“You look incredible,” Damian said quietly. “Like you spent the night rolling in someone’s sheets, which I suppose you did.”

Lily laughed. “Just not with someone, huh?”

“Not by my choice, sweetheart.”

She shivered.

Goddammit.

Damian was clearly playing for keeps in whatever game he had decided on.

Lily wasn’t sure she was ready for this.

Needing to get her mind away from the sexy, panty-soaking worthy place it had quickly gone to, Lily asked, “Is this usually what you do in the morning?”

“Talk on the phone?”

“No, work out.”

Damian nodded once. “If I have time, I try. It’s a good stress reliever.”

“What else do you do besides track girls down at clubs, work out, and watch news broadcasts on silent?”

“Are you asking about my job?”

Lily pursed her lips, her stare flitting between him and the spot where he’d answered the phone. “Yeah, I suppose I am.”

“I do what the boss wants me to do, Lily.”

“Anything?” she asked.

“Yes.”

The second shiver that crawled up her spine came for an entirely different reason than the first. It was a hell of a lot colder, too.

Anything was vague enough for Lily’s imagination to run wild but pointed enough for her to understand without him directly saying it.

“So, you’re not like my brothers, right?” she asked.

“And I’m not like Tommas, either,” Damian said.

“Huh.”

“That bothers you, doesn’t it?”

“A little,” she admitted.

“There’s a reason why they call me Ghost, Lily.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, because they never see me coming and they don’t hear me leave.”

Lily thought about Dino and the vague reasons she had been given as to why Damian was his first pick for her. Maybe aligning her with one of the most dangerous men was Dino’s way of keeping her safe. She wasn’t sure how she felt about that.

“Because you’re invisible,” Lily said.

“In the most important ways.”

“How?”

“The ways that keep me from getting caught,” Damian answered.

“What is this place?” I asked as Vince shook the umbrella outside and set it open just inside the door.

“It’s my hunting cabin.”

“How fitting.” I slipped out of my rain boots. Vince watched me from the center of the room as I placed my boots near the door. I stood up straight, facing him, facing this.

“I just lost power.” He was still watching me as if I might disappear. “Luckily, I had some candles.”

I nodded, again surveying the stark décor.

“Meredith—”

I took two long steps and interrupted him with my hands on his stomach. The fabric of his T-shirt was thin, and damp from the rain. His chest heaved as his hot breath swept across my face. Everything about him was warm and inviting. I rested my forehead on his chest and let the scent that was distinctly his flow through me. It took me back to the school bus to Philadelphia. To where I first inhaled the perfect mix of mahogany and strength.

“Meredith,” he started again, and I wished he wouldn’t. I raised my lips to his neck and inhaled again. I wouldn’t let myself think. He hadn’t shaved, and I let his beard scrape against the side of my face, anything to touch him. I didn’t want to consider this, I wanted to feel it. “This can be whatever we want it to be. It doesn’t have to be an affair. It doesn’t have to be what everyone else has done before us. We’re not them.”

His argument against typical did nothing to sway me to our union’s merits, but the expression on his face, his determination to make this work, moved me.

“Tell me what you want.” His voice was gentle near my ear, and I wanted to stay in this cabin, in the storm, forever.

“I don’t know what I want anymore.” The tension rose in my chest. All the schooling, all the money, and I didn’t know what I wanted. How was that possible? I could have anything, but I couldn’t name one thing. “Since I stopped working, I’m lost.” I lowered my eyes to his chest. I was ashamed.

“No, you’re not.” His arms wrapped around my shoulder, his hands moved my hair away from my neck, and he leaned down, letting his lips rest there. I shivered before a heat spread through me. “I found you,” he said, and tilted my face to his. Vince kissed me without waiting for an answer.

He kissed me, right there in the middle of the room, until a heat sank down my spine, anchoring me to the ground in front of him, assuring me against every reasonable argument that this was going to be okay.

“You don’t remember seein’ me that day before I talked to you at the bar, do you?” Kat thought about it and then shook her head. “I didn’t think so.” Tucker scratched along his jaw, and sighed.

“Well, I saw you. I saw you up the street, runnin’ and dodgin’ people.” He smiled at the memory. “I still don’t understand how you women run in heels.” He shook his head in disbelief, and maybe even a Little awe. “Your legs, I noticed immediately. Your umbrella lifted up a few times and I saw your face, stopped my heart for a beat or two. Then I saw where you were headed, knew right then I had to get to the door before you did. Had to find a way to get your attention.” His eyes dropped. “But it didn’t work. You looked right past me, like I wasn’t even there. I heard your name when you checked in, and then I knew I had a decision to make.” He looked down at the coffee mug squeezed between his large hands.

“We can argue all night about me not comin’ clean on who I was. But the truth, for me, is once I knew you didn’t recognize my name, didn’t know I was the one you were waiting for, I decided then and there to be Tucker Williams—the man, not the pompous venture capitalist.” He paused, searched for recognition. She rewarded him with the hint of a grin at the echo of her own words. “I wanted a chance, Kat. I wanted you. I wanted you to flirt with me the way you did that pretty boy behind the bar.”

He chewed at the inside of his cheek and waited. Kat glanced down at her lap, attempted to hide her smile.

“I’m not the sorta guy you usually go for, am I?”

“Not even close.”

“So why did you, Kat?”

Laguana Nights by Kaira Rouda 1

Review:

This is a good read. Short and sweet and hot, too. I loved the way the author made me see the a Laguna area and the settings for the story. I wish there had been a little more to the story because I was just beginning to get to know Madison and Josh. The character development was good as far as it went but I would have liked to delve a bit deeper. If you are looking for a good, easy read then this is for you.

Reviewed by Wildcatnana

Description:

Madison Alcott was back in her hometown, caring for her sick mom and working long hours at the best resort in Laguna Beach. She never imagined she’d return to the place where she became famous on the hit reality TV show Laguna Nights, and the place where she was humiliated on national television. Fortunately, the past had stayed tucked away until her old high school boyfriend appeared in the lobby.

Josh Welsh was a superstar by age eighteen, the bad boy break-out star of Laguna Nights. Since then, his star had lost its shine and he barely was holding onto his Hollywood status. When he was asked to host a new reality travel show, he jumped at the chance. The only problem was the first episode was shooting in Laguna Beach. Of all the reasons Josh didn’t want to return home, he hadn’t even imagined the worst scenario: running into Madison “Holly” Alcott.

Josh’s connection to Madison was still as strong as her anger at his betrayal. When the new reality series forces them together, they must face Laguna Nights past and present, and navigate a journey where nothing is as it seems.

Excerpt:

It was an early Friday afternoon in February and Madison Alcott stood on the balcony of the Mondrian Laguna Beach, a luxurious Craftsman-style hotel perched on an oceanfront bluff. She needed a moment of zen before her latest group arrived from LA and her favorite place to breathe was this balcony. Typically, the winter breeze would be chilly, but not this year with global climate change. She was comfortable outside in her simple black dress, no jacket needed.

Her long blonde hair blew softly in the ocean breeze as she looked out at the sparkling blue water stretching out to the horizon. Waves crashed on the shore, a sound she found soothing and had since she was a child. It was a constant, that swooshing water sound, more dependable than anything or anyone else she’d known. She closed her eyes and imagined herself lying on the warm sand, wearing her favorite red bikini, soaking up the sun, laughing with friends, maybe even holding hands with Dolby, lying side by side.

She opened her eyes and looked down. Directly below her, a young family – two fit, gorgeous parents with two towheaded toddlers – frolicked in the resort’s signature mosaic swimming pool. The young father tossed one of the children up in the air, eliciting squeals of joy from the child, before he swam to his wife and pulled her to him for a kiss. Madison sighed.

“That should be me, us,” she said, her words drifting on the warm air of the empty patio, and checked her watch. The group check-in would begin in just twenty minutes and she needed to be sure everything was ready. All the she knew about the group was that they were a bunch of picky entertainment execs. The booking agent had been light on details about the group’s members, but heavy with expectations of service, food, and confidentiality.

“My group will expect complete privacy, the finest in service and flexibility,” the man had said to Madison over the telephone.

“Of course. Um, flexibility?” she had asked. She’d stopped taking notes as flexibility was typically not one of the demands.

“Sometimes, they change their minds. So, although we’ve set the agenda for the week, well, it is all subject to change,” he had said.

Madison had leaned back in her chair, inhaled a deep breath and had counted to ten. She was up to her eyeballs with entitlement, especially with Hollywood types. “I’m sorry, but we’ve scheduled the best table at our oceanfront restaurant just for your party. They cannot simply decide not to show up on Saturday night.” She had been proud of herself, being firm and she hadn’t let her voice waver.

“We’ll pay whatever. Just know, it may happen. See you on Friday,” he had said and hung up.

Flexibility, Madison thought, walking toward the front desk, crossing the thick carpet of the lobby before stepping onto the dark wood floor of the reception area. All three staff members smiled at her and she returned their grins.

“Can’t wait to see who’s in this group,” Chrissy said, eyes twinkling behind her wire-frame glasses. Chrissy had been with the resort for as long as anyone could remember and she still became star struck every time a celebrity checked in. Even if she didn’t recognize the person until Kevin, also a guest reception employee, showed her online. They still joked about her lack of rock star knowledge, missing the chance to ogle both Eric Clapton and Sam Smith within months of each other. She’d still proudly added them to her celebrity sightings list, Madison knew.

“We’re so ready to be flexible,” Kevin said, tugging at the lapel of his sport coat, his red hair glowing in the spotlight aimed at the seascape oil painting behind him but instead shining on his hair because of his 6’4” height. “I did a walk-through of all of the suites. They’re ready. Champagne on ice. Strawberries dipped in chocolate. Everything chilled and waiting. We’ll make them love us.”

Madison doubted that but smiled anyway. She loved her team. They were family to her, the reason she’d stayed on even though she should have moved on when the company had offered a promotion to a property in Sun Valley. Instead of manager of group sales, she would be a vice president of guest services. She’d told them she couldn’t leave Southern California – that it was home. But the truth was, it was the people here who worked at the resort that she couldn’t leave. And her mom, of course.

Her earpiece crackled to life and Madison cupped her hand over her ear. “Five minutes to arrival,” said the van driver who’d picked the group up at the private airport in Irvine.

“Got it,” Madison said, into the small mouthpiece. “Any insights?”

“Dickheads,” the van driver said as Madison’s heart fell. She’d suspected it would be a long weekend, but the confirmation saddened her. It wasn’t as if she had anything else to do, she reminded herself, pushing Dolby and his strong broad shoulders out of her mind. She knew he’d never be able to forget what he’d watched, no matter how many assurances she made, no matter how long ago it had happened. It was the same with her last attempt at a relationship, and the one before that. They would tell her it was fine, that they could handle it. But that was always a lie.

For the last year, Emma Owens has been quietly detached from everything and everyone. Desperate to escape the demons that chased her out of her hometown, she’s learned that life here in Milwaukee is just less complicated and less tragic when it’s a one-woman show. Her life now revolves only around five essentials: working, binge-watching Netflix, eating, blogging, and sleeping.

In the span of one week, everything about her carefully orchestrated solitude comes crashing down. Then again, she can’t really ignore the scratching coming from her patio door or the hungry, pleading grey eyes reflecting in the moonlight. Emma doesn’t have any better luck ignoring another pair of eyes, and her new neighbor, Finn Matthews, with his shy persistence and a painful past of his own, slowly chips away at the rest of the ice trapping Emma in her insecurities and her loneliness.

That week, Emma finds herself hoping for something she never thought she’d ever want or need again–a real connection. Review:

Wow! What this book was a joy to read and had everything you might be looking for. Kevin and Trinity are great character and so down to earth. The author did a great job making all the characters in this book so familiar it was like reading about friends. I did really like how she held off telling what there “home problems” were instead of putting it out in the first part. Great book!

Kevin takes that chance and hopes that she will see beyond the celebrity persona. But when fall classes start up again, their busy schedules press their relationship.

Kevin doesn’t want to give up on her–on them. He hopes the happiness they had will rebound once more.

Excerpt:

He couldn’t know how much she would like to do exactly that.

Yet Natasha’s fears of giving over to the sensations jolting through her at his touch were stronger than her impulse to let go and enjoy the evening, the moment and the man. Her lucky night, he’d said. She didn’t want to think about luck. She’d had the dream again the previous night—always the same sequence of events, always the same words. It wasn’t right. Surely her mother wouldn’t mock her from the grave.

But the man’s firm leading caught her up, and soon she was twirling and dipping and dancing and laughing.

Until the music ended.

And Natasha snapped back into the room.

She stepped away from his hold. A rush of coolness swept between them as if someone had opened a door or a window, but there was neither in sight. He dipped his head toward hers and she panicked, thinking he was going to kiss her.

“One more?” he asked, smiling. “And then we should get something to drink.”

Relieved that all he wanted was a dance, she nodded.

But then the DJ cued a slow song, a song she’d never heard before. As his hand slipped to her back and down to her waist and he drew her close, her heart rumbled a beat far faster than the slow tempo of the lovely ballad.

He ran his other hand along her arm until his fingertips met hers. He twined his fingers in hers, then lifted their joined hands and rested them against his chest. Through the edge of her palm, she felt his heart beating, keeping time with hers, keeping a tempo that had nothing to do with the DJ or the party or the place. She tilted her head back and caught him smiling down at her as he swayed and drew her into the first slow steps of the dance. The music played not only around her but through her, melding with the beat of his heart against her palm and the feel of his other hand at her back, guiding her, meeting her, caressing her.

And she let go. Surrendered to the pulse of energy flowing in her. And danced with the mysterious man with the beguiling smile.

When the music stopped, she felt like a woman waking from a delicious dream. But within seconds her thoughts rushed in, calling her defenses back into place like sentinels that had waited at the ready, unhappy to have been dismissed for even the briefest of moments.

“Let’s get some air,” he said. “There’s a terrace just outside the back of this tent.”

Air. Yes, air would help her return to her senses.

He took two glasses of champagne from a passing waiter and handed one to her.

The night had turned cool, the perfect drop in temperature that would lead to this season’s best grapes. The fog hadn’t yet come in, but there was a distinct chill in the evening air.

He whisked off the black doublet he wore and wrapped it around her shoulders.

“Thank you,” she said, finding her voice.

Several couples were seated near heaters at small tables lit by candlelight. Their mingled voices and laughter rippled into Natasha. Had she ever really had fun? She couldn’t remember.

“The stars are especially bright tonight. No moon,” he said.

She looked up, but he wasn’t looking at the stars. He was looking at her.

“Tell me something about you,” he said softly.

“We’re not supposed to exchange information,” she answered.

“Only identifying information is off limits. Tell me about something you love.”

Under normal circumstances she would’ve said Tyler. She sorted through possible responses and found she wanted to answer. Wanted to share some part of her with this mysterious man. But not without a reciprocal exchange.

“If I do, then after, you tell me something. One thing that you love.”

“With pleasure.”

His accent perhaps explained his rather formal English. She liked the way he spoke, the way his words wound together in unusual patterns and his accent made the words stand out, familiar yet not familiar. For so many years she’d honed her ability to listen, to see, to use her senses to make up for her struggles with written words. She was reaping the reward for honing those senses tonight. With this man in this magical setting.

She hugged her elbows close to her chest. “I love plants, everything about them. Their beauty. Tenacity. Fragility. They speak my language.”

He raised a brow, barely visible above his black mask. “Then we have more in common than loving to dance.”

“I didn’t say I loved to dance,” she said, glad that it was dark and he couldn’t see the heat creep into her cheeks.

“You didn’t have to.”

If she’d known how intimate dancing with him would feel, would she have agreed to dance? Already she felt that she’d stepped into a world with signs and signals she couldn’t read. With sensations that tumbled her thoughts and teased at her carefully held boundaries. But perhaps she was like a prisoner kept too long in a dark cell. She longed for color. For song and dance and laughter. To surrender, if only for a moment.

If only there wouldn’t be consequences.

But there were. There always would be.
