Excerpt:

Heading for the stairs, I met Trissa coming down. “You’ll never believe it!” she whispered urgently.

“What’s up?”

“I think Lenny Kravitz is here.”

Having Annabelle on my mind, I had braced myself for news of mischief directed at customers. Relieved, and feeling a little mischievous myself, I raised my eyebrows and replied, “Who?”

She groaned and rolled her eyes. “God! Do you do anything but read?”

As the grin I’d suppressed broke free, she frowned in annoyance. “B! You have to go talk to him.”

“It’s not Lenny Kravitz.”

“Come on.”

She grabbed my arm and dragged me upstairs to the fantasy section, where she gave me a shove toward a man in distressed denim and black leather. He stood eyeing a shelf on the L-through-P aisle.

To be fair, he could’ve been Lenny Kravitz — like twenty years ago. This guy’s denim was truly distressed, not distressed by machines for that perfect, overpriced lived-in look. And the cracks in his leather jacket traced a map of a rugged landscape in some unknown, dark country. The heel and sole of one of his motorcycle boots were held together by duct tape. He was as poor as I used to be. Maybe poorer.

But his sculpted features were framed by a glorious but compact starburst of spiky dark hair bleached burnt-orange at the ends. And I’d stake my store on him being a musician.

As I stood there studying him, he looked up, and I took a few steps forward. “Can I help you find something?”

His eyes moved over me, but not in a way that felt creepy. He was studying me back. And what he was probably seeing was that the money I’d spent on my outfit would have bought him groceries for a month. It wasn’t the way I usually dressed. Well, it was now. But a year ago my clothes were all the same vintage as his.

“You work here?” he asked.

“I … ” I couldn’t bring myself to say I was the owner. “Yes. Can I help you?”

“Do you have sci-fi? This is all fantasy.”

I nodded. “We’ve got them in two sections. If you’ll follow me … ”

Chill bumps washed over my back as I listened to the thud of his boots against the hardwood floor behind me. I was suddenly self-conscious about the length (or lack thereof) of my skirt. No way of knowing whether I was imagining his eyes on my ass, but I was glad he couldn’t see my face, because the heat there confirmed my belief that they were.

“Here we are,” I said, waving at the first of the sci-fi shelves. Alpha by author. Is there something specific you’re looking for?”

He considered me a moment, delicious chocolate eyes fixed on my face. He was intense about eye contact. Finally he gave a slight nod. “Solaris.”

“Oh yes,” I said too eagerly, “that’s one of my favorites.” I walked to L through P and sank down to study the bottom shelf. “Looks like we have both a used and new copy.” Solaris was on the obscure side for sci-fi, and now my curiosity was piqued. Or rather more piqued.

“I’ll take the used,” he said quietly.

“Of course,” I said, again in a quick, nervous voice, as I slid the book off the shelf.

I held it out to him, and he said, “What do you mean?” Something dark flashed in his eyes.

I felt my smile slipping. “I’m sorry … ?”

Clearing his throat, he shook his head. “Nothing. I’ll take it.”

I handed it to him, annoyed that my heart felt like a box of wrestling kittens. The guy had spoken a handful of words, and he had me completely unsettled.

“What interested you in the book?” I asked, trying to sound casual and friendly rather than neurotic or stalker-like.

He hesitated, studying the cover. “My girlfriend recommended it.”

“Ah.” I swallowed hard to prevent any more words from coming out.

“Ex-girlfriend, I mean.” He glanced up, and a slow smile swung one corner of his lips up. “She left me for a guy with a PhD. I decided it was time to educate myself.”

“Ah.” I didn’t have to swallow this time. There was no way to reply to that without ending up a mess of blushing awkward.

“You’re Bronte, aren’t you?” he said, tucking the book under his arm. “The owner.”

I cleared my throat. No avoiding it now. “Yeah, that’s me. But it’s just ‘B.’”

“Nice to meet you, Just B.”

I tried and failed to stop the eye roll. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that one.

He grinned. “Sorry. But I can’t call you that.”

“Why?”

Encore of the intense chocolate stare. “It’s a less than perfect grade, and that’s not you.”

I was so startled by this I forgot to notice that it sounded an awful lot like a cheesy pickup line. “That’s exactly what my moms say.”

He lifted an eyebrow. “Your moms?”

Now the pickup line thing sunk in. “Yeah. You got a problem with that?”

“No,” he laughed.

No one here was ruffled but me, and I felt like a jerk. I couldn’t think of a single word to say to him now, except “if you’ll excuse me,” which at this point would only emphasize my discomfort. Luckily he took pity on me.

“I’m Brody, Bronte. Thanks for helping me with the book. Good luck with the store.”

Grateful to him for coming to my rescue, I smiled. Genuinely. “Thank you. I hope to see you here again.”

He gave another shake of his head, and his gaze slid around the second floor. “I don’t read much. But I had to see if it was worth it, me getting kicked out of my apartment because some rich kid wanted to open a bookstore.”

Vina-St.-Fran

Hi. I’m Vina St. Fran, a Michigan native and I write contemporary romance stories for a mature audience. I am also Political Contributor for Examiner.com, which is an online news publication.

Let me expound upon what drives me to write as an author. I like creating stories about powerful, kick-ass women who make it happen in the boardroom and the bedroom without apologies. You will find my novels may contain characters of different ethnic backgrounds who add spice to the plot, and makes for interesting reading.

My female heroines are confident and charismatic, yet they are vulnerable when it comes to matters of the heart. The realism is heartfelt, for to love is to risk. They find certain situations push them to the brink of despair, yet in the middle of it all they manage to enjoy amazing, fulfilling sex lives with their significant others, which is thrilling and downright erotic. The end result is that the characters mature, and develop into stronger women.

Review:

I loved reading “In The Age Of Hysteria!” At first I though it was about something else. I was intrigued to find it really being about a disease that many women have had. Very interesting book. I give it a 5 star for the in depth description in treatment for Hysteria. Oh, and Joseph can be my doctor anytime!
I really recommend reading this one!  You won’t be disappointed.  Except for maybe the last bit, I wanted more!  Will be buying more of Thomas Briar’s books.
Review by Romantic Jaguar
Our blog was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
Description:

Dr. Joseph Brenner, a twenty-two year old graduate of medical college, has a natural gift for treating hysteria, circa 1878. The only problem is none of his peers in Boston, Massachusetts will offer him an assistantship due to a supposed moral indiscretion on his part. Without obtaining an assistantship he cannot enter the medical field to build a reputation as a competent doctor. Or, so he believes.

The beautiful and affluent Ms. Mary Pyre, a twenty-six year old businesswoman, has heard whispers of Joseph’s proficiency in treating the disease. She seeks Joseph out and hires him as the attending physician at her Women’s Health and Revitalizing Spa. Though Joseph and Mary are attracted to each other, unfortunate circumstances make them keep their romantic feelings for one another at arm’s length. It is only when he learns she needs his expertise to overcome her chronic sexual impotence toward men that their relationship has an opportunity to move forward.

In the Age of Hysteria Banner 851 x 315

Excerpt:

Joseph realized Laura had become relaxed in his presence and more in tune with his own emotions since he’d become personable. He casually stood up and extended a hand. “Would you mind taking a seat in the treatment chair?”

“Okay.” Laura accepted Joseph’s hand to stand up and let him direct her over to sit back down in the treatment chair. She shifted her naked buttocks around on the V seat, before automatically opening, lifting, and extending her legs so they lay on the thigh and calf supports. Her hairy nether region was now on display. She evinced no sense of embarrassment, only a compliant smile.

“Thank you, Laura,” Joseph said. “Now I’m first going to recline the chair, and then I’ll strap you in for safety reasons. At any point if something starts becoming uncomfortable, please tell me and we’ll fix it. Okay?”

“Okay.” Laura nodded her head of black curls at Joseph.

He engaged the appropriate lever on the side of the chair to let the back of the chair gradually recline until it made contact with the built-in stoppage. Pushing on another lever, the seat and legs of the chair glided forward and slightly upward to cradle Laura’s body in a reclined position.

“How are we doing?”

“It’s more comfortable than I thought it would be.” Laura’s face betrayed her surprise. “I kind of like it, I think.”

“Good. Now I’m fixing to pump the chair up to the necessary height. You’ll feel a series of gentle bumps, but don’t worry; it’s not fixing to dump you out. So you don’t have to hang on. Okay? Just stay relaxed.”

“Okay.”

Joseph pumped the foot-mechanism causing the hydraulic cylinder underneath the chair to extend so Laura’s body rose upward to a height where Joseph knew his hand could easily reach her pubic region without him having to stoop.

Next, he started fastening the restraints, beginning with the waist and chest belts, careful to get both snug, yet, not so tight as to cut off circulation. The restraint of Laura’s right leg followed, before he stepped around her feet to repeat the procedure along her left leg. He saved her arms for last. He reached across her body to buckle the left arm first, and then finished up with the right arm, being very circumspect in buckling the elbow and wrist cuffs so she couldn’t snatch an arm free in the frenzy of orgasm.

With the restraint of the patient accomplished to his satisfaction, he asked, “How does it feel, Laura? Everything seem okay?”

Again, Laura nodded her head, only this time she discreetly licked her bottom lip.

Joseph counted this as a positive sign. He used his fingers to move the stray hair away from Laura’s face. He made sure his fingers gently brushed against her delicate skin. As suspected, he discovered the surface temperature of her face hotter than his fingertips. This declared her body was awakening to sexual arousal; the dilation of her pupils heralded this truth as well. He kept looking directly in her eyes.

“Now Laura, I want you to think of these straps holding you in place as if they were a strong man’s embrace,” Joseph voiced lowly. He gently caressed the soft contours of Laura’s forehead and cheeks. “It can be any man you want it to be. You are safe and sound within his embrace. He’s holding you in place because you are precious to him. He would never do the least thing to hurt you, or let anything happen to you. He only wants to discover your body’s secrets and make you feel good.”

Laura’s eyes closed under Joseph’s soothing ministrations, then flickered back open to stare at him more intently than before. She murmured softly under her breath.

“That’s right, Laura. You like him caressing your face. He’s such a strong man. He only wants to make you feel special, and he knows how to do this. He knows the kind of gentle touching you like.”

Laura offered a slight nodding of her head. Her breathing became slow and deep. She did not close her eyes again; neither did her gaze wander from Joseph’s face.

Joseph realized Laura now stared into his eyes without really seeing him; the duel orbs of jet blackness were glazed over in fantasy. He had her now, wholly and completely, her burgeoning arousal keeping an even pace with his verbal and physical ministrations. He began caressing Laura’s neck and shoulders, careful to move his hands slowly to cover every inch of soft, warm skin.

“He loves the softness of your skin under his hands. The way you look, feel, and smell. You are the woman he has always wanted to be with. He is so pleased you agreed to take a carriage ride with him.” Joseph moved his hands down to caress Laura’s upper torso, to finally cross over the chest strap and massage her breasts without ever touching her distended nipples. The teasing of her nipples would happen only when she wanted and needed the sensations. Right now he was intent upon seducing her into wanting orgasm, not trying to force orgasm onto her.

About the Author:

Edgy and provocative in his writings, Thomas Briar strives to exalt the virtues of love and lust in every erotic story he creates. To date, he’s garnered eleven publishing contracts with three different publishers and has seven published books in the marketplace.

When he’s not writing, he enjoys spending time with his wife, reading, taking long walks, and people watching. Yeah, he’s always wondering what makes people do the things they do. He knows it’s usually something hidden in plain sight. He just has to figure out what it is, much like the motivations of the characters in his stories.

Five Revelations from Thomas Briar

  • I was once a very religious young man. The ladies in the church I attended wore their hair in buns and their dress-tails brushed against the hardwood floor. Considering the explicit sexual content in my books, who would ever suspect that I came from such an austere environment…right?
  • At twenty-five years of age I discovered Zalman King’s Red Shoe Diaries and Anais Nin. The course of my life was forever altered. However, due to my religious upbringing, I suffered quite the emotional dilemma: either reinvent myself into who I wanted to be or continue to live out my life in religious austerity. I honestly believe I made the right choice.
  • My wife is the most fun I’ve ever had. And I suspect she always will be. I met her when I was twenty-two and she was nineteen. I knew I was going to marry her three weeks into our relationship but I waited eight months before I actually asked for her hand in marriage. We’ve been together twenty-one years. She’s the love of my life.
  • I’m no stranger to manual labor. My father put me to work at six years old. I chuckle now whenever I think back at how I considered it a travesty that my younger brother didn’t have to start working until he was seven. My brother and I are still the best of friends all these many years later.
  • I love writing erotica and erotic romance. Every time I publish a new story I feel like I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing with my life.

Book Description:

Brigid Roan is a graduate student at the University of Texas. She had no trouble getting her thesis approved, but finding a Hill Country motorcycle club willing to give her access to their lifestyle had started to seem impossible. Then she got a lead. A friend of a friend had a cousin with ties to The Sons of Sanctuary.

What she wanted was information to prove a proposition. What she didn’t want was to fall for one of the members of the club. Especially since she had set out to prove that motorcycle clubs are organized according to the same structure as primitive tribal society.

Brash Fornight was standing in line at the H.E.B. Market when his world tipped on its axis. While waiting his turn to check out, his gaze had wandered to the magazine display and settled on the new issue of “NOW”. The image on the cover, although GQ’d up in an insanely urbane way, was… him.

After reading the article, Brash threw some stuff in a duffle and left his club, The Sons of Sanctuary, with a vague explanation about needing a couple of days away. He left his Jeep at the Austin airport and caught a plane for New York, on a mission to find the guy who was walking around with his face.

Two brothers, one a player, one a playboy, are on a collision course with destiny and a woman who thought she won a prize when she was allowed a look inside the Sons of Sanctuary MC.

2pPrintCover1450x1100

Excerpt:

“Sir?” Brash Fornight gradually became aware that someone behind him in the grocery checkout line was trying to get his attention. “Sir?” He refocused and glanced behind him. The woman leaning on a cart overflowing with chip bags and cookie boxes nodded toward the cashier indicating that it was his turn to move forward. Brash looked her in the eye and had to give her props. Most people wouldn’t have the balls to try to herd a guy wearing Sons of Sanctuary MC leather.

The club employed a woman who cooked and did grocery shopping several times a week as part of her job description, but Brash didn’t like to explain his relentless craving for peanuts and he liked being teased about it even less. He didn’t know whether it was the Vitamin B or the fat or just because he liked the taste, but he couldn’t imagine going a day without them.

That’s how he came to be standing statue still In the grocery checkout line, being prompted by some woman with more nerve than sense. While he was waiting, his eyes drifted over the magazine display and settled on the cover of “NOW”, on the Most Eligible Bachelor edition no less. The debonair figure staring back was wearing Brash’s own face and body. He looked different with short hair and a four thousand dollar suit with the shirt fashionably open at the neckline, but the similarity was inescapable.

On impulse he grabbed the magazine and tossed it onto the conveyor belt with his week’s stash of peanuts.

He stuffed the bags into the saddlebags of his bike and roared toward home, nervously tapping his fingers on handlebars at red lights, riding on shoulders to keep from slowing down. He was anxious to get to the privacy of his own room and read about Branach St. Germaine.

Two beers, one jar of peanuts, and one “NOW” article later, Brash was sitting on the edge of his bed looking at the wall, seeing nothing but his own heavy thoughts. He pulled out his phone, looked up a website, and waited on hold for ten minutes to hear the time of the next flight from Austin to New York.

There was a flight to Newark in a little over three hours. He looked at his watch and calculated the time it would take to drive from Dripping Springs at that time of day. As he booked the flight, he stood up, walked to the small closet, grabbed a duffel bag, and began shoving stuff into it. Ten minutes later, he closed his door and locked it, threw the duffel over his shoulder, and headed straight for the office downstairs. He dropped the duffel on the hallway floor beside the closed door and knocked.

“Yeah?” Brash looked inside, glad that his dad was by himself, and stepped in. “What’s up?”

“I’m takin’ personal time, Pop. Gonna be gone for a couple of days.”

“What the hell is ‘personal time’?”

The gruffness made Brash smile. “It means I’m not gonna be here if you call and I’m not tellin’ you why.”

The Sons of Sanctuary President looked up at Brash, over the top of his readers, and narrowed his eyes. “You got a secret?”

“Everybody’s got secrets.”

Brandon Fornight studied his son for a minute. “True enough. Is it the kind of secret that could affect this club?”

Brash shook his head. “Don’t see how.”

“Well, then. See you… When did you say you’d be back?”

“I didn’t.”

“Bein’ purposefully vague, are you?”

Brash grinned. “That’s why they call it personal time. But I expect to be back Friday.”

“You gonna have your phone with you?” When Brash nodded, Bran looked back down at his ledger in a deliberately dismissive gesture. “Well, get outta here then.”

Brash parked his bike in the airplane hangar. The structure had already been on the property when the club had bought it and turned it into a compound twenty years earlier. They used part of it for vehicle maintenance and repair and part for parking.

Some of the guys who were working looked over and shot curious glances his way when Brash threw his duffel into his pickup and started it up, but it wasn’t their way to ask questions. The Sons figured that if somebody wanted you to know something, they’d tell you.

Brash took a cab to a midtown hotel, wondering all the way why human beings would choose to live in such a place. As he slid his credit card across the hotel counter to the agent on duty, he glanced at the name, Brandon Fornight. It seemed unlikely that it was a coincidence that that the mysterious look-alike’s first name began with the same four letters. He ordered room service and pulled out his laptop.

Getting intel on the guy didn’t take advanced ops. Within an hour Brash knew where Brannach St. Germaine worked, what kind of car he drove, what kind of women he dated, who his tailor was, and where he liked to dine. There was no shortage of photos online, but the one that grabbed his attention wasn’t one of the many with starlets or debutantes on his arm. It was the one taken with his arm around his mother as they were arriving together for some red carpet fundraiser. Brash had an almost irresistible compulsion to reach up and touch her face on the screen in front of him.

The knock on the door signaled that room service had arrived. It cost a fortune, but looked and tasted like shit. So he closed the computer and went out for a walk to clear his head and find something edible.

A Thistle Beyond Time, by Jennae Vale Reply

Purchase from Amazon for $2.99

Review:

A Thistle Beyond Time is a time travel story with a bit of a twist. Part of the story takes place in San Francisco in current day and part in 1500 Scotland. If you enjoy a quick pace and characters that are not flat and stereotyped you should get this book and start reading!

Jenna and Cormac are delightful. And the secondary players are full of life, especially Dylan. I love the fast pace and how each problem that comes up is dealt with head-on. I have not read a lot of time travel but if this is what I get I intend to read a lot more.

While there is a love story there is also a bit of suspense and mystery. I will gladly recommend A Thistle Beyond Time.

Her large, extended Irish and Italian families were a great source of support, inspiration and humor.  Laughter, love and food were never hard to find in her home. Growing up surrounded by nostalgic, historical landmarks, fed her love of history and creative writing.

She has worn many hats over the years.  From owning her own typing service and horse training/boarding facility, to operating an embroidery/t-shirt business, her entrepreneurial spirit was strong and thriving. Determined to do something she truly loved, her vivid imagination took over again and she decided to follow her literary dream of writing stories that tapped into her love of magnificent people and places.

Jennae now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, where they’ve raised two beautiful and talented children.  Along the way they’ve gathered a menagerie of pets, including one dog, three cats and 4 chickens to make the family complete.

Excerpt

Jenna was running the vacuum cleaner when Dylan returned with Cormac. She didn’t

hear them enter and when she finally did look up, she jumped, clutching her chest.

“You scared me!” Her heart was racing in her chest.

“Sorry, cuz,” Dylan apologized, with a sheepish grin on his face.

Jenna looked around Dylan and an angry scowl lit across her features as she spied

Cormac.

“I thought I told you to take him to a shelter! What didn’t you understand about

that?” She snapped.

“I couldn’t do that to him, Jenna. He’s from another country and he doesn’t know

anyone here. He’s a good guy, really. We just spent the last hour having breakfast and

getting to know each other.”

“Dylan, I know what you’re up to, so you can stop right now.” Letting go of the

vacuum, Jenna crossed her arms over her chest.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Dylan replied.

“I know this is all a practical joke. I don’t know how you pulled it off and I don’t

know where you got this guy from, but I can’t believe you would do that to me. You

know how upset I’ve been lately and when he appeared out of nowhere, well… I thought

he was a serial killer or something.”

“I would never harm ye, lass.” Cormac said, as he peeked around from behind

Dylan.

“I know that now, but at the time I was pretty scared.”

“I apologize to ye. I didnae mean to scare ye.”

“It wasn’t a practical joke, Jenna. This guy, Cormac, is from Scotland and he was

sent here by a witch. That’s the Edna he mentioned. Anyway, he’s not even from this

time. He’s from the sixteenth century. Can you believe it?” Dylan asked excitedly.

“No. I can’t believe it and I don’t. Nice work trying to convince me of something

completely impossible. Have you been taking acting classes lately, Dylan, ‘cause you’re

pretty good. If I didn’t know you better, I might even believe you.”

“It’s true, Jenna. I’m not making it up. Tell her Cormac.”“He’s telling the truth, lass. Edna sent me from the year 1514. She said ye were to be me wife.”

“Now don’t start that again. You both need to give it up. I don’t believe you. There’s no such thing as time travel. Period. The end.”

“Okay. I won’t mention it again, but we’re not lying and time travel is totally

possible, you’ll see,” Dylan insisted.

Review:

I am not usually a fan of Contemporary Romance, but I have to say I really enjoyed this book! It was very well written and kept you reading. I liked the dynamic between the two main characters. It definitely made them feel like there was a depth to them (not a fan of puddle deep characters). Other than a few typos this book was amazing!

Excerpt:

Crystal shimmied down the drainpipe with her trophies tucked inside her backpack and computer files loaded onto her USB, hung around her neck disguised as a locket. This was too easy. Not like the Warren job where the COO kept changing the menu and supervised their catering to ensure they had followed the strict rules of kashrut.

She landed on the concrete with a thump, then removed her mask. Usually she worked at night when the catering gig didn’t provide the necessary cover, but she had a date this evening.

A blind date.

Her sister’s fiancée had called earlier that day to let them know his cousin from Texas would join them for dinner and would Crystal come along? As far as Crystal was concerned, it was the closest thing she’d come to as a real date in a long time. She’d take it.

Thankfully, her catering appointment with Westridge canceled yesterday. While she enjoyed cooking, it was only a cover for her and her sister’s illegal activities. What she excelled at was computers, but having a career in that field, now, would be too suspicious. Her IT skills far exceeded a Level One Help Desk worker. She despised working for Westridge, the man who had her mother killed and her dad thrown into jail, but catering was the easiest way into her target’s homes without suspicion. And she refused to pose as a cleaning lady and scrub their filth.

Years ago, Dad found what he thought was a series of accounting errors. For his honesty trying to help Westridge correct the problem, he was thrown in jail to rot. Westridge and his company framed her dad for embezzlement and sharing confidential information with preferred suppliers to obtain favors. Now she and her sister were halfway toward exonerating him and exposing Westridge and his corporate crimes. To see the look on Joshua Westridge’s face when he was convicted would make all her and her sister’s sacrifices worth it.

Thunder boomed as she weaved through alleys, stinking of rotting food and urine. She barely made it to her car before thunder rumbled.

Crystal checked the time on the dashboard, almost seven. No time to waste. Paul and his cousin, Kade, were picking up her and her sister at seven-thirty. Her car hummed to life as she stashed her backpack behind her seat. The stolen cash, including a recently purchased blood diamond necklace, lay inside. Hopefully the money and necklace would throw off Westridge’s Sales Manager to the fact that computer information had been the real prize. And hopefully, they wouldn’t discover the truth until it was too late. For now, another piece of the puzzle to exonerate their dad and lock Westridge away lay on her chest inside her locket.

She whipped into traffic and hit the wipers as fat drops of rain slapped against the windshield. Great. Ahead, a red light flickered as taxis and cars lined up behind it. She debated taking Ninth, but decided against it. Construction was still ongoing and traffic would be worse than this.

Maybe squeezing in a job before dinner wasn’t such a great idea.

Review:

Wow. This was a great read! Tas has strong fellings because of what he has seen in his life: hardship, loss and not trusting humans.
Cora is just the opposite having lived in Pouraka her whole life, so she is trusting of the humans there.
When Cora and Tas meet that have an immediate connection but have to learn to appreciate each other’s view. However when things start to change and Tas is proven right, that some people are not like the people in Pouraka, Cora has to change her view.  I love how the author pulled this all together and made Cora such a strong female character! I don’t know if there will be a book two but I would read it!!

Description:

Pouraka is a magical sea cavern tucked under the rocky cliffs near Barnacle Bay. Cora, a Pouraka mer, is torn between her friends in the seaside town, and her true love Tas, a foreign mer whose people fled when men invaded their waters.

Life becomes difficult for all mers when an arrogant oil rigger’s son, Tom, finds the bay and the rich aquatic life it harbors. When Tas attempts to rescue a pod of dolphins from Tom’s gill net, he is captured and taken away as a prize to be sold to a theme park. When Cora hears of his capture she changes into human form and travels south to find him, risking her life to free him.

Time away from Pouraka leaves the cavern vulnerable, and a new threat arises when tourists discover its magic.

Book Trailer: http://youtu.be/EkSwqips0D0

Excerpt:

The sand was cool, the shells sharp and prickly, making her toes itch. She strolled to the wet sand where the foam still bubbled into clam holes and the remnants of waves frothed over her feet. Seagulls clustered, pecking at shellfish and welcoming the end of day. Farther out the ocean throbbed, constant and carefree. Ever faithful, the sea rocked back and forth over the earth as it harbored its creatures, protecting them from the sun’s vicious heat, feeding them, nourishing them and cradling them. Cora should be in its belly, accepting its nurturing. She was the oceans’ charge and yet here she was, walking the land as though she were human. She’d been denying her heritage all this time.

A surge of shame swept over her. Why did she even want to be human? Merpeople were so much kinder to each other, and to the animals they lived among. Why did she ever doubt that she should live as a mermaid?

Cora took the basket off of her back and unfastened the lid. The water inside was so clear she could see the interior weave of kelp even in the fading sunlight. Scooting closer to the surf so that the waves rolled over her, she held the basket above her head.

Pouraka’s water dripped over her hair, onto her shoulders and her face. She lifted her chin and let it run down her neck, her chest, her belly. Cora poured the water over her hips, her legs, and her toes as the sea rumbled and came to her, a white roll of salt water rushing to immerse her. Cora leaned back and let the ocean swallow her human body. The sea wanted her home, grabbing her form and pulling her far away from shore. She tumbled in the breakers until she was saturated and far from land. Cora came to the surface and viewed the vanishing shoreline one last time. Sunset shined its face on her scales as golden fragments of evening glitter. She hadn’t felt so alive in a long time. She felt good, and somehow she would bring this freedom to Tas. She had to.

Review:

What an enjoyable story about two people with chemistry. This story gives the true meaning of “it can happen when you least expect it.”

A young mother, Alyssa, and her daughter Lexis own a cafe in Boise, Idaho. They have an open position for an executive chef. Alex Winters may be a chef in Los Angeles, but love was not on his mind.

This a refreshing story about second chances and a little five year old who steals the book. Looking for a book full of emotion and so much love, this will take you from life’s problems.
